Sprouting from a deep-rooted love for Hamilton, a passion for good food, and a strong desire to meet the essential food needs in our urban core, The Mustard Seed grew from an idea planted in hope into its own ecosystem, one that is both sustained by our community, and nourishes it at the same time.

 

We pride ourselves on the fact that we are so much more than a grocery store. We are a community of members, connecting you with the region’s best local farmers and food suppliers, all while making sure that you know exactly what you’re putting in your basket. Our community also consists of farmers, producers, owners, shoppers, and staff, all working together to grow a simple seed into a community staple so we can achieve our mission:

Providing the community with a member-owned and operated grocery store that offers a bountiful selection of wholesome foods, prioritizes local producers, and creates an educational environment that nurtures the relationship between people and the food they eat.

 

We strive to ensure that our goods support a greater good. It’s a full-circle approach for a whole-hearted mission. That's the real beauty of The Mustard Seed, and we can only do it with you by our sides, and in our store.

Land Acknowledgement

The City of Hamilton is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.
